Member of newly unionized security force arrested

A screener at Portland International Airport was arrested Friday afternoon on accusations of stealing from a passenger's bag, the Port of Portland reported. Tuesdea Renee Palmer, 38, of Portland faces counts of theft, possession of a controlled substance and official misconduct, said Steve Johnson, a port spokesman. Police would not say what was stolen from the passenger, who probably went ahead on a flight, Johnson said.

Palmer, who has worked for the Transportation Safety Administration since late 2002, was placed on indefinite suspension, said Tina Burke, an agency spokeswoman. Burke said she couldn't speak to the woman's past. Mike Irwin, TSA Oregon federal security director, said in a statement, "TSA's transportation security officers at PDX are outraged by this individual's behavior."
